Subject: Social life and customs; Obituaries Date: 1932 - 2009 Description: The April 5, 2009, death of John "Jack" Jenkins, 77, of Towanda is honored in an obituary from the April 9, 2009, Normal, Illinois Normalite, a letter to the editor by Art Adams from the April 24, 2009, Pantagraph, and an item in the Bill Flick column in the April 17, 2009, Pantagraph. Mr. Jenkins was born January 16, 1932, the son of William Calvin and Daisy Ochla Howell Jenkins. He was survived by his wife, Rita Wink Jenkins; his children Jan (Warren) Schaffer, Jon (Roma) Jenkins, Kim Nussbaum, Kay (Greg) Shaw, and Lyn Jenkins; and 16 grandchildren. Mr. Jenkins was an active member of the community, serving variously as major of Towanda, member and president of the Towanda library board, the Unit 5 Board, the Illinois state library board, and the Heartland Community College Foundation Board. Mr. Jenkins was a founding member and first president of the Towanda Area Historical Society.
