How to search this site:

Use the buttons across the top of the screen above to see, hear, or read one of these items, as follows:

Click on the blue arrow () to see and select a topic, and then click on 'Search Topics' button to return a list of all items associated with that topic, in date order, oldest to most recent.

Type in a search term, for example a name, choose whether you want to search for any of the words, all of the words, or the exact phrase, then click on 'Search This Site'.  The items' titles, dates, topics, descriptions, and record ids will be searched to return a list of all items associated with the word(s) in date order, earliest to most recent.  The contents of documents themselves cannot be searched.  The search is case sensitive, so use capital letters when appropriate (eg. 'Duncan' instead of 'duncan').

How to view the artifacts:

In a list of items, select the item you are interested in to read a brief description and to see, hear, or read the item.

In the window that pops up, you will see one of the following types of items:

  1. Descriptive information, followed by an image of a photograph, newspaper article, or object.  If you need to see an enlarged version of the image, you can change the zoom level in the browser window by adjusting the percentage on the lower right-hand corner of the window.

  2. Descriptive information, followed by a View Document button linking to an Adobe PDF document containing a text file and/or multiple images.  You will need to click on the View Document button to see the contents of the PDF file.

  3. Descriptive information, followed by an audio file and a photograph.  Use the media player bar after the description to start, pause, replay, or stop the audio file from playing. You must click the control button once to activate it and then a second time to start it to play.
